A Complete Class, Rank, and Progression System for Thedas

A Complete Class, Rank, and Progression System for Thedas

One of Dragon Age's greatest strengths is the richness of Thedas itself. The world contains ancient civilizations, Titans, spirits, dragons, the Fade, the Qun, the Chantry, Grey Wardens, witches, golems, and countless cultures. Yet most gameplay has traditionally revolved around three core classes:

  • Warrior
  • Rogue
  • Mage

While these classes work, the lore suggests a much larger world. Dragon Age could support dozens of unique classes, each with its own progression path, ranks, organizations, and identity.

The key is understanding three separate systems:

Class

What you are.

Examples:

  • Warrior
  • Mage
  • Witch
  • Spirit Walker
  • Beastmaster
  • Arcane Knight
  • Golemancer

Rank

Your status within your profession.

A rank is earned through achievements, trials, reputation, and experience.

Examples:

  • Apprentice
  • Master Mage
  • Archmage
  • High Witch
  • Lord Commander

Level

Your personal growth.

Levels determine:

  • Health
  • Mana
  • Stamina
  • Attributes
  • Talents
  • Skill unlocks

A level 60 character and a level 60 character may be equally powerful, but their ranks, titles, and specializations can make them completely different.

Mythic Classes

These should be exceptionally rare, perhaps only one or two existing in an age.

Fade Walker

Master of the Fade and reality.

Titanborn

A dwarf transformed by Titan influence.

Dragon Knight Ascendant

A warrior carrying the power of dragons.

Keeper of Secrets

Guardian of forbidden knowledge.

Last Voice

A being connected to ancient gods, dreams, and forgotten histories.

Old Blood

A mortal carrying primordial power older than modern Thedas itself.

Final Philosophy

Dragon Age should not abandon Warrior, Rogue, and Mage.

Instead, those should become foundations.

Thedas is too large and too rich to be represented by only three classes. The world already contains witches, dreamers, spirit walkers, seekers, templars, wardens, chevaliers, ben-hassrath operatives, saarebas, golems, runesmiths, beastmasters, relic hunters, dragon slayers, and countless other archetypes.

A modern Dragon Age could allow players to begin with a core identity and evolve into one of dozens of specialized paths. That approach would make the world feel larger, the factions feel more meaningful, and character progression feel like a true journey through the cultures, mysteries, and legends of Thedas.

Ultimate Endgame Paths

At the very top of progression, certain classes could evolve into unique legendary identities.

Examples:

  • Archmage → Supreme Magus
  • Spirit Walker → Rift Lord
  • Beastmaster → Primal King
  • Antaam Juggernaut → Horn of Conquest
  • Crownforge Golem → Eternal Crown
  • Arcane Knight → Arcane Lord
  • Titan Speaker → Voice of the Titans
  • Last Strategos → Master of Nations
  • Gatekeeper → Eternal Gatekeeper
  • Worldwalker → Walker Between Worlds

These aren't just stronger classes. They are individuals whose names become part of history. Characters that kingdoms write about, Chantry scholars debate, dwarves carve into stone, and bards sing about centuries later. That kind of progression would make advancement in Dragon Age feel less like climbing a skill tree and more like becoming a legend within Thedas itself.
