Dragon Age: A Complete Class, Rank, and Progression System for Thedas
One of Dragon Age's greatest strengths is the richness of Thedas itself. The world contains ancient civilizations, Titans, spirits, dragons, the Fade, the Qun, the Chantry, Grey Wardens, witches, golems, and countless cultures. Yet most gameplay has traditionally revolved around three core classes:
While these classes work, the lore suggests a much larger world. Dragon Age could support dozens of unique classes, each with its own progression path, ranks, organizations, and identity.
The key is understanding three separate systems:
Class
What you are.
Examples:
-
Warrior
-
Mage
-
Witch
-
Spirit Walker
-
Beastmaster
-
Arcane Knight
-
Golemancer
Rank
Your status within your profession.
A rank is earned through achievements, trials, reputation, and experience.
Examples:
-
Apprentice
-
Master Mage
-
Archmage
-
High Witch
-
Lord Commander
Level
Your personal growth.
Levels determine:
-
Health
-
Mana
-
Stamina
-
Attributes
-
Talents
-
Skill unlocks
A level 60 character and a level 60 character may be equally powerful, but their ranks, titles, and specializations can make them completely different.
Universal Rank Structure
This framework can be adapted to nearly every class.
| Tier | Rank |
|---|
| 1 | Novice |

| 3 | Journeyman |
| 4 | Veteran |
| 5 | Expert |

Final Philosophy
Dragon Age should not abandon Warrior, Rogue, and Mage.
Instead, those should become foundations.
Thedas is too large and too rich to be represented by only three classes. The world already contains witches, dreamers, spirit walkers, seekers, templars, wardens, chevaliers, ben-hassrath operatives, saarebas, golems, runesmiths, beastmasters, relic hunters, dragon slayers, and countless other archetypes.
A modern Dragon Age could allow players to begin with a core identity and evolve into one of dozens of specialized paths. That approach would make the world feel larger, the factions feel more meaningful, and character progression feel like a true journey through the cultures, mysteries, and legends of Thedas.
Dragon Age: Advanced Classes Beyond the Known World
If Dragon Age truly embraced the scale of its lore, there would be classes that most people never encounter. These would be rare paths, hidden traditions, ancient professions, and forgotten callings scattered across Thedas.
These are not simply stronger versions of existing classes. They represent entirely different ways of living in the world.

A fully realized Dragon Age could eventually contain 50–100 meaningful classes spread across military, magical, religious, political, crafting, exploration, Titan, Qunari, dwarven, elven, and legendary paths. Thedas is already large enough in lore to support them; the missing piece is giving players the ability to participate in those professions instead of merely hearing about them in codex entries and companion dialogue.
